At Lumen Christi, our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) framework is built upon three simple, consistent expectations that guide behaviour across every aspect of school life. Grounded in our Catholic values, these expectations help students live our vision of Called to Learn, Called to Belong and Called to Hope each day.

Be Safe

Caring for ourselves and others.

We make responsible choices that protect our own wellbeing and the wellbeing of those around us. We move safely, use equipment appropriately, seek help when needed and create environments where everyone feels physically and emotionally safe.

When we are safe, we:

• create safe learning environments

• support everyone's wellbeing.

Be Respectful

Recognising the dignity of every person.

We treat others with kindness, empathy and consideration. We use respectful language, value diversity, include others and ensure everyone has the opportunity to learn, contribute and belong within our community.

When we are respectful, we:

• speak kindly and listen thoughtfully

• include and encourage others

• value the gifts and diversity of every person

• show empathy and compassion

• care for our learning environment

• honour the dignity of everyone we meet.

Be Responsible

Using our gifts to serve our community.

We take ownership of our actions and learning, care for our environment and belongings, and strive to do our personal best. We recognise that our choices influence others and use our gifts to contribute positively to our school community.

When we are responsible, we:

These expectations are explicitly taught at the beginning of each school year and revisited regularly through classroom learning, Positive Behaviour for Learning lessons and everyday interactions. They are consistently applied across all settings—including classrooms, specialist learning areas, playgrounds, excursions, online environments and the wider community—providing students with a shared understanding of what positive behaviour looks like wherever they learn.

Together, these expectations create a learning environment where every child is known, valued and empowered to flourish, building a community where students are encouraged to grow in confidence, strengthen relationships and live our vision of Called to Learn, Called to Belong and Called to Hope.
