At Lumen Christi, we believe leadership is not about a badge or a title—it is about serving others, living our values and making a positive difference every day. Inspired by the example of Jesus, we encourage every student to lead with humility, integrity, compassion and courage, recognising that leadership can be demonstrated through everyday actions as well as formal leadership roles.
We are committed to nurturing confident, capable and responsible leaders who are equipped with the knowledge, skills and dispositions to flourish at school, contribute positively to their communities and grow as people of faith, hope and service.
Our Student Leadership program is guided by four leadership dispositions that reflect our vision of Called to Learn, Called to Belong and Called to Hope. These foundations encourage every student to grow as a leader by serving others, building relationships and making a positive difference within our school and wider community.
We lead with humility, kindness and compassion, recognising that authentic leadership begins by serving others. Inspired by our call to bring hope to those around us, students use their gifts to support their peers, contribute to the school community and make a positive difference through acts of service and generosity.
We lead through our words, actions and example. Students embrace opportunities to learn, grow and challenge themselves while encouraging others to strive for their personal best. By modelling curiosity, perseverance and integrity, our leaders inspire a love of learning and lifelong growth.
We build respectful relationships that strengthen our community. Students foster inclusion, listen with empathy, value diversity and ensure every person feels welcomed, known, valued and respected. Through positive relationships, we create a community where everyone experiences a true sense of belonging.
Leadership is a journey of continual learning and reflection. Students are encouraged to embrace feedback, accept responsibility, learn from challenges and continually develop as confident learners, compassionate leaders and active members of our Catholic community.
Leadership opportunities are intentionally embedded throughout school life, enabling students to develop confidence, responsibility and a commitment to serving others. Students strengthen their communication, collaboration, decision-making and problem-solving skills while learning the importance of respect, empathy and teamwork.
Student leadership opportunities include:
School Captains
Vice Captains
House Captains
Student Representative Council (SRC)
leadership of school liturgies, assemblies and community events
supporting younger students through mentoring and buddy programs
representing the school at community and leadership events
leading initiatives that strengthen our school community.
Through these experiences, students develop confidence, resilience and a genuine understanding that leadership is about listening, serving and positively influencing others.
The Student Representative Council (SRC) provides students in Years 3–6 with meaningful opportunities to develop leadership skills while representing the voice of their classmates. Students are selected at the beginning of each school year to represent their class and actively contribute to the life of the school.
Through regular meetings, SRC members:
represent the ideas, perspectives and needs of their peers
collaborate to enhance school life
contribute to school events and community initiatives
develop leadership, communication and teamwork skills
participate in respectful discussion and democratic decision-making
learn the importance of responsibility, service and active citizenship.
The SRC empowers students to understand that leadership is about listening carefully, acting thoughtfully and working together to create positive change.
Every student can develop leadership skills and make a meaningful contribution to our school community. We believe leadership is nurtured through opportunities to serve others, take responsibility, collaborate respectfully and demonstrate kindness in everyday interactions.
Through authentic leadership opportunities, encouragement and positive relationships, we empower students to discover their unique gifts, grow in confidence and become compassionate leaders who inspire others through their words, actions and example.
Student Leadership brings our vision of Called to Learn, Called to Belong and Called to Hope to life each day.
As students who are Called to Learn, our leaders embrace opportunities to grow in confidence, develop new skills and lead by example through a commitment to learning and personal excellence.
As members of our community who are Called to Belong, student leaders foster inclusion, build positive relationships and ensure every person feels welcomed, known, valued and respected.
As young people who are Called to Hope, they lead with courage, compassion and integrity, encouraging others, embracing challenges with optimism and believing that even small acts of service can make a meaningful difference.
Through leadership, students discover that their voice matters, their actions influence others and their gifts help build a stronger, more connected and faith-filled community where everyone is encouraged to let their light shine.
